For the longest of time I have been hearing about how there is discrimination in the world. The world would be such a beautiful place to live in if there would be no discrimination between Hindus and Muslims , between rich and poor , between one caste and the other , between the genders…………..
This year it was in my civics book as well. Reading that chapter I got to know more about diversity and discrimination. India is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Then why not respect the diversity? Why not respect every one for who and what they are?
In villages , there are people who are grouped as “untouchables”. Why? They are not any different from us. They are the same. In the movie “lagaan” , there is an untouchable named “kachra” by the villagers. This was wrong ! How was he any different ? They should have treated him like any other ordinary person.
Discrimination is present in different levels of importance. Looking on lower level we create stereotypes in our minds that girls are good and art and boys are good at sports. Girls are sensitive while boys are bold. Talking on a more serious and higher level, women are considered generally the weaker gender. They are not given as many opportunities as are open to men. At one point of time women were not given the right to vote. Even in countries like U.S.A and U.K women had to start the Sufferage Movement to get out of this.
There are many people who are a victim of poverty. Does that mean they are any less human? NO! They are the same. Then why are we prejudiced against them?
I often think to myself how the discriminated people must be feeling. We have made life like a punishment for them.
Many times we tend to laugh at the handicapped people. This is not a good thing. Circumstances in life have brought this situation upon them so why not encourage them to move on by treating them the same way we treat the others……
All those people who are discriminated against ……… try to put yourself in their shoes and see how terrible they must be feeling.
So, kill discrimination and let there be ONE PEACE AND NOT TWO PIECES!
